Consult your doctor [3]. The only way to confirm if you have diabetes is to see your doctor for blood tests. The results of these tests will define you as normal, prediabetic (meaning you are at high risk of developing diabetes if you don’t make significant changes), or diabetic.
It’s better to know if you have the disease too early than too late, because early treatment is key to recovery.
The effects of diabetes on your body are primarily long-term consequences resulting from uncontrolled blood sugar levels. So, if you receive treatment that helps you control your blood sugar levels, you can avoid or at least postpone most of the long-term effects of diabetes. This is why early diagnosis and treatment are so important.
Get tested to diagnose diabetes

See a doctor. Your doctor can perform two different tests to check your blood glucose levels [4]. Normally, a fasting blood test is used to diagnose diabetes, but a urine test can also be performed.
Blood glucose levels are normally between 70 and 100.
If you are borderline diabetic (prediabetic), your glucose level will be between 100 and 125.
If your level is above 126, you are considered diabetic.
